Also, I tried converting the text to a path, lining it up on the rectangle, then selecting the text and the rectangle and selecting difference and for whatever reason, absolutely nothing happened.

Trying to cut text out of an object
I'm trying to cut some text that I typed out of a rectangle. I can't seem to find a simple guide for it and I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick runthrough? New to Inkscape
Thanks!

Re: Trying to cut text out of an object
Hi.
Text to path converts the characters and groups them together.
You could use the original text object and the rectangle to run the difference, or
after converting the text to path, ungroup it (Ctrl+Shift+G) and combine characters (Ctrl+K) before subtracting it from the rectangle.
