So here's my question... whats the best way to either import or draw my own guitar pick shape? I want to put text in it and have it conform to the shape. I may not be ready for this but figures I'd ask anyway!

I'd use the star/polygon tool to make a triangle, convert it to a path, smooth the nodes, then use the flow text into path operation.

All that is covered in the help tutorials and online manual.

Do you want the text to be deformed into the pick shape? Or do you want the text to fill up the pick shape (with multiple repeats of the text)?
